Best Cozy Toronto Coffee Shops
Curated by Toronto BookToker @mars.libraryyy
Finding a great coffee shop in Toronto is easy. Finding one with the kind of ambience that makes you want to stay for hours with a good book, a great drink, and no pressure to leave is a little harder. That's exactly what Toronto BookToker and Lost & Vegan contributor @mars.libraryyy looks for. Spending her days reading, researching, and curating the best books for her community, she needs more than just good coffee. She needs a place. We asked her to share her favourite cozy coffee shops in Toronto, and she came through with three picks that work for vegans and non-vegans alike — spanning the Financial District, the underground PATH, and the beloved streets of Bloor West Village.
Humble Donkey: Financial District
60 York St, Toronto · Near Union Station
Tucked inside the Union Hotel near Union Station, Humble Donkey is one of the most warmly decorated coffee shops in Toronto's Financial District. The space carries an easy, unhurried energy. It's the kind that makes two hours feel like twenty minutes and regulars consistently describe it as the perfect spot to open a laptop or a book and simply stay a while.
The coffee is solid, and the pastry selection makes a second order very easy to justify. Service is friendly and attentive. With generous hours seven days a week until 10pm, it's also one of the few cozy cafés in Toronto that works just as well for an evening visit as a morning one.
The Brick Room: Toronto PATH
181 Bay St, C060, Toronto · Inside the PATH underground network
A hidden gem in Toronto's underground PATH network, The Brick Room is the kind of café you feel genuinely pleased with yourself for discovering. The aesthetic is calm and considered, and the drinks are anything but ordinary. Think black sesame foam, Kuro Macha, hojicha cream, and rotating seasonal specials that reward repeat visits.Despite its location, it is more contemplative spot than most coffee shops in Toronto's downtown core. The Brick Room is ideal for anyone who wants to disappear into a chapter and people watch. Worth noting that The Brick Room is a weekday-only spot, so plan accordingly.
Bloomer's: Bloor West Village
873 Bloor St W, Toronto · Near Ossington Ave
If there's one fully vegan café in Toronto that non-vegans fall in love with too, it's Bloomer's. Set on Bloor Street West near Ossington, it's one of the city's most beloved and walkable neighbourhoods. This plant-based bakery has built a loyal following and a reputation that genuinely precedes it.
The donuts are the headline: enormous, pillowy, and available in creative rotating flavours. But the menu goes well beyond that. They have bagels and croissant sandwiches, oat and soy lattes, and baked goods that hold up against any non-vegan equivalent. The space is relaxed and welcoming, and as one regular puts it, it's exactly the kind of place you'd want to sit and read with a donut in hand. For vegans looking for plant-based cafés in Toronto's west end, this is the one.
