CAN YOU EAT VEGAN MEALS IN PARIS?
When you think of Parisian food, what first comes to mind? Croissants, quiche, croque monsieur? Their most popular foods are usually not made with vegan-friendly ingredients. There are almost always milk and eggs included in the ingredients.
This doesn’t mean that there aren’t establishments trying to innovate and include vegan-friendly options in their menus. Since the late 2000s, there has been an increasing number of options for vegan food in Paris.
During our food tour for the On the Road series, we checked out vegan food in a few cities in Europe to get ready for the Lost & Vegan App. Paris was a must-see, and we weren’t disappointed. While it wasn’t as packed with options as some other cities, there were still some great options to choose from.
There are currently about 50 fully vegan restaurants in Paris. There are also non-vegan places that serve vegan-friendly options. If you want to try some of the more classic meals, for instance, French pastries, go to the 11th Arrondissement to try VG Pâtisserie. This vegan bakery was founded in 2016 and is proud to serve food made without animal ingredients. This means no eggs, milk, gelatin or honey.
If you want to try some more savoury classics, head to Le Potager du Marais. Located in the 4th Arrondissement. There is also the Maisie Café, which is a great option for fresh, energy-filled bites and drinks. For a hearty and filling meal, there is a great vegan concept spot called Aujoud’hui Demain. Here you can get burgers, sandwiches, breakfast and desserts. Definitely a good option if you're in a group and want to sit down for some platters.
